Step 1: Complete the Request for Information Form
The first step in the application process is to complete the Request for Information Google form, which can be found via a link at the bottom of the current web page. On this form, you will provide “IEC” with basic information such as your name, email, phone number, county, and state of residence.
Step 2: Attend a Workforce Event
Before moving forward with the application process, applicants must attend at least one of IEC’s workforce events. Applicants can choose to attend one of the following: an open house, an online information session, or a work readiness seminar.
Step 3: Complete the Online Math Assessment
Before enrolling in the apprenticeship program, applicants must complete an online math assessment using a system called FlexiQuiz. The assessment covers basic algebra and must be completed in 30 minutes.
Step 4: Complete Portfolio for Trade Scouts
Before becoming a registered apprentice with the Department of Labor, you must first find employment with an Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) contractor member. The IEC aids in this by inviting you to use a job board called Trade Scouts to complete the onboarding process.
Step 5: Contact IEC After Finding Employment
If you find employment with an IEC contractor member, you should contact IEC within 24 hours. An IEC staff member will then tell you the next steps.
