Atlanta /GA Chapter and Members Attend National Business Summit in Charlotte, NC.
IEC Atlanta/GA Executive Director Niel Dawson and 17 staff and IEC members attended the 2024 National Business Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Summit was from Sunday, January 28th to Wednesday, January 31st.
The IEC National Business Summit provided opportunities for learning, growth, solutions and networking. Through a series of events and education sessions, members received business ideas and revelation to more possibilities. Mixers, committee meetings, round tables and working groups filled the itineraries.
On Tuesday evening, staff took a moment to celebrate while past Georgia Board President, Robbie Jones of Coastal Electric of Georgia awarded Georgia Contractor of the Year Dale Flythe of ACE Electric in Macon and Partner of the Year Mark Mullis of Energy Systems Southeast, LLC. Congratulations on making a tremendous impact in 2023.
Working on finding the right workforce and retaining them was a key conversation through out the conference. A gaze in to the future of the industry introduced AI in construction opportunities. The final speaker for the evening, Stephen Moore provided a 2024 Economic Forecast.

IEC Soars to New Heights at 2023 Christmas Party & Awards Program
IEC celebrated its 2023 Christmas party with Contractors, Partner Members, Guests and Staff. The annual Christmas party is always a fun time with food, drinks and prizes, but most importantly, it’s an opportunity to celebrate IEC accomplishments.
Atlanta Board President Darren Lodge welcomed 150 attendees to an open bar, entertainment from comedian Chris Ruppe and a delicious Maggiano’s spread. 2023 Board members were acknowledged, and membership award recognition began.

IEC’s Annual Christmas Party and Awards Luncheon Highlights 2022 Contributors

On December 2nd at Maggiano’s Little Italy at Cumberland, IEC Atlanta GA chapters wished its members a Merry Christmas with its annual Christmas party and awards luncheon. This year IEC celebrated 57 years as an association. There is no doubt that membership growth and association connection account for IEC’s longevity.
Nearly 200 guests celebrated with family style Italian dishes, scrumptious deserts and an open bar. Guests mingled before lunch with hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Laughed during lunch with Comedian Carlos Rodriguez, and tables had a few fun gifts along with a raffle ticket for the afternoon finale of prize drawings.
The 2023 Board of Directors was sworn in and dinner and awards commenced.

On December 3rd IEC Atlanta and Georgia Chapters held its annual Christmas Party and awards ceremony at Maggiano’s Little Italy at Cumberland. Hosting 130 in attendance, Contractors, Partner members and their guests enjoyed an afternoon filled with fun, prizes and the recognition of the 2021 Award winners within the Atlanta/GA chapter.
The afternoon began with drinks and hors d’oeuvres being served as guests arrived. Atlanta Board President, Steve Askea opened with a welcome and thank you to the 2022 Board of Directors. IEC is strong because of its members, and the first item on the celebration agenda was acknowledging IEC’s loyal members. Awards were given to members for their service for 5, 10, 15, 25, 35 and 50 years plus.

IEC Atlanta Celebrates Its Largest Graduating Class In 2021
On July 8th at the Evergreen Marriott in Stone Mountain, IEC Atlanta/GA Chapters hosted over 200 guests in its celebration of 91 graduating apprentices. In attendance were family, friends, contractors and IEC staff to dining and displaying how so very proud of them we are!
This is IEC’s 51st annual graduation and its largest graduating class yet. Despite any challenges, electrical journey persons were made and IEC had a huge hand in it!
The event smoothly transitioned from the welcome of the IEC Atlanta Board of Directors President, Steve Askea, President of ASK-Kay Electrical Contractors, the Master of Ceremony delivery of Executive Director Niel Dawson and Associate Executive Director of Workforce, Todd Hawkins, to inspiring guest speaker Janet Martin, President of IEC National; award presenters, sponsors and graduates entering in their caps and gowns to make their momentous tassel turn. IEC Atlanta’s 2021 Apprentice of the Year is Timothy Jon Martin of Unger Electric, LLC
Congratulation to Timothy Jon Martin of Unger Electric, LLC; the 2021 IEC Atlanta Chapters Apprentice of the Year!
Timothy competed with 4th year apprentices for the opportunity to be awarded at the local level. The competition consists of two events: The wire-off and a written exam which covers material from all four years of study. Timothy has the highest number of total points and is awarded the highly coveted “Apprentice of the Year” award for the Atlanta Chapter IEC. As the winner of the Apprentice of the Year competition he wins a trip for 2 and $500 spending money for the IEC National Convention in New Orleans. LA, October 28-30, where he will represent the Atlanta Chapter and compete in the National Apprentice of the Year competition.
Andrew Howard of Excel Electrical Technologies, Inc. came in second place and will fulfill the duties should Timothy be unable to do so. Both Timothy and Andrew have earned their CPE credentials, a nationally recognized credential where individuals have demonstrated skills, proficiency and knowledge regarding the electrical field.
