GA Chapter Savannah Golf Tournament Put Fun In Fundraising

 IEC’s Georgia Chapter hosted another fabulous event!  Contractors, Partner members and guests enjoyed the 5th Annual IEC Georgia Chapter Golf Tournament.  On Thursday, May 13th 7:30AM at The Club at Savannah Harbor, 20 teams teed off for some competitive fun and networking.  As we adjust into the new normal, it is just as important to take time to connect with those in the electrical industry.

This golf   tournament did more than just provide a networking opportunity; it proves to be a successful fundraiser as well.  Funds were raised to go towards IEC GIFT, Georgia Industry Foundation for Training.  Golfers purchased $1300 in mulligans and participated in a vacation raffle earning $2,170 in proceeds, which calculates a total of $3,470 donated to GIFT!  Donations are used to provide scholarships to those students needing financial assistance to pursue their goal to be an electrician!

Congratulations to IEC apprentice Corey Neal of Glawson Electric for winning the Vacation Raffle.  Cory is a member of the National Guard and is currently deployed, so he is attending classes online.  When he returns he will be able to have a great vacation in Orlando, Florida staying at the Hard Rock Café along with 2 days at 3 theme parks!

At every IEC event there are the winners!  We had a close game with a tie breaker needed between 3 of the teams.  Let’s congratulate these skilled golfers;

  • Tie Breaker winners, First Place Team Southway Crane- Lyn Leebern, David Koreman, Ben Robbins and Trey King scoring 60.
  • Second Place Team ASI Lighting- Byron Pippin, Alan Tyson, Pat Walsh and Carson Strictland scoring 60.
  • Third Place Team Southwire- Bill Fowler, Shawn Johnson, Devon McCaskill and Bruce Quinn scoring 60.
  • Fourth Place Team Milwaukee Tool- Luke Bright, Brendan Doud and Andy Powers scoring 62.
  • Closest to the Pin Winner- Michael Wilson
  • Longest Drive Winner- Palmer Prescott

These golfers did a fabulous job, thank you for coming out!

IEC Georgia Contractor, Robbie Jones of Coastal Electric matches $4,000 GIFT Donation

IEC Atlanta/ GA chapters is elated that Georgia contractor member, Robbie Jones of Coastal Electric of Georgia has matched donations for IEC’s Installer Program in the amount of $4,000.  This extremely generous donation is directed towards “Special Needs Programs” that cater to at risk youth.  Youth that are vulnerable to dropping out and finding a less appealing path.  Donations towards programs to support this cause help to give them options.  Thanks to donors like Robbie Jones, programs can help provide alternative choices. 

IEC is proud that the Skills Based Installer program is a program that provides an opportunity to begin a potential electrical career by teaching the basics and helping contractors to see their potential.  IEC’s GIFT program is growing and has already funded multiple new workers and now with this donation GIFT can do much more!  Click here for an opportunity to give to IEC’s GIFT Foundation.  If you are interested in enrolling someone in the Installers Program, register here to find their electrical career path!

IEC Skills Based Installer Program Puts New Workers to Work Faster!

Congratulations to IEC April IEC Skills Based Installer attendees, Corbin Thompson, Marlon Eason, who were hired by Tom Young of Penco, and Valentine Aza, who was hired by Mark Good of Good Electric!  These are just 3 of IEC’s Installer participants who are now employed with an IEC contractor. 

These now newly employed electrical workers also happen to be recipients of IEC’s GIFT Scholarship.  They each received a portion of the Installer program fees paid on their behalf.  Being new to the industry, you could say that the Installer program bridges the beginner gap and gives contractors extra reasons to give the new worker an opportunity with a company.  Reasons include that these workers show up on site skilled in hand and power tool usage, they know their numbers, measure accurately and are prepared day one to bend pipe, prep wire, install cable and more!  Who wouldn’t want these professionally prepared workers on their jobsite?

The Installer program is proving to be the answer to some of our contractors looking to build an experienced workforce. 

The next session begins on May 3rd running on Mondays and Wednesdays until May 26th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.  This is a perfect opportunity for contractors with new workers needing to learn their way around and maintain productivity, or for the new person looking to enter the electrical field.  The Skills Based Installer Program is where you start.  Click here to register for May session now!
